Here are two really super websites!
http://www.ouramazingplanet.com/
http://www.earthweek.com/
Task 1 - Click on both of the links and spend 5 minutes looking through the website and following recent Geography stories. Did anything catch your eye???
Task 2 - You are going to put together a one page graphic to show a recent Geography event in the news. You must try to cover the following points:
a) Where is this place?
b) What is this place like?
c) What has happened in this place?
d) Has it changed?
e) Who has been affected by this event?
f) How do the people feel about it?
g) How do I feel about it?
You might not be able to answer every question depending on the news story chosen, but don't worry about that.
Don't forget to include maps, pictures (be careful with copyright), date and a title on graphic. You can use Word, PowerPoint or Publisher.
Your work will be marked as follows:
Presentation / 10
Content / 10
Total 20 Marks
Task 3 - Produce a 30 second 'rant' to go with the graphic. Your speech should inform the class why you chose this story and what it has to do with Geography. You must tell all of us what type of Geography it is .... Physical, Human, Environmental or even a mixture of the two or three!
You will give a timed 'rant' at the front of the class with your graphic displayed on the whiteboard behind you. You must not go over the 30 seconds time limit otherwise you will be cut off .......... not good!
