Leisure: Define: Free time when you are not in work, education or carrying out essential domestic activities and compulory activities e.g sleeping and eating.
i. However, do some people enjoy carrying out domestic activities. What about DIY?
ii. Is free time really free? Or do social and economic forces package it as "leisure time" and offer you a host of (paid for) activities.
iii. If you have a free weekend, what sort of things might you do?
iv. How is this presented to you?
v. Why do you feel it is leisure?
vi. Why do many MEDC governments like to promote Leisure Time amongst their populations? Surely, a person not at work is not productive?
Define: Recreation - this is referred to as the activities that are done when not working and are done for amusement, fun or pleasure.
Define: Tourism - Travel away from home for at least one night for the purpose of leisure. Note that this definition excludes day trippers. There are many possible subdivisions of tourism. Subgroups include:
⋅ ecotourism — tourism focusing on the natural environment and local communities
⋅ heritage tourism — tourism based on a historic legacy (landscape feature, historic building or event) as its
major attraction
⋅ sustainable tourism — tourism that conserves primary tourist resources and supports the livelihoods and culture of
local people.
Define: Sport - A physical activity with a set of rules and customs. The activity may be competitive.
