In section A, there will be four questions.

1 - Populations in Transition

How are the questions structured?
Paper 1 has had text boxes in which to write your answers so you can see approximately how much you have to write for each question.

Questions 1 - 4 will each have several sub-sections (see below) and should take no more than 1 hour to complete, that's 15 minutes for each question.

Each question is split into an a,b,c format.

Question a is normally based on stimulus material and will ask you to interpret a graph or chart. Be very careful to read the command words carefully and study graphs to avoid silly mistakes.  (2+2 marks)

Question b will normally then ask you to advance the theme explored in question 1. This will require case study knowledge. (2+2 marks)

Question c generally links in with another part of the unit and can be on anything but will be case study based. (2+2 marks)

Section B is an essay based question and you will have a choice of three to complete.  This is where your essay writing skills (under pressure) will be tested. You will be expected to write in the region of one and a half pages of A4 in this section.  Quality & Quantity!  This will take you approximately 30 minutes.

Paper  2    HL/SL - January 2017

You will receive a paper that has all the optional themes available to students studying IB Geography. We have not studied all of these. You need to choose the right ones to answer!

SL - Both questions (Q9 & 10) on the Sports, Leisure & Tourism unit - 40 minutes x 2 = 1 hr 20 mins

HL - Both question (Q9 & 10) on the Sports, Leisure & Tourism unit plus one Freshwater (Question 2) - 40 minutes x 3 = 2 hours.

Each Paper 2 question is split into the a,b,c format and follows the following mark structure.

a - based on data response -  2+2 or 4 marks (8 mins)
b - building on question a and includes case study requirement - 3 & 3 marks (12 mins)
c - Essay question based on any part of the unit - 10 marks (20 mins)

Paper 3  -  HL  January 2017

How will paper 3 work?

This is the third and last of your mock papers - you should try to save the best for last here as this is a tricky exam and the mark scheme is demanding  You have to be totally on-form and there is no room for misunderstanding or flowery language. They are expecting near degree level knowledge and understanding of some higher level topics. Remember how to write essays and ensure that you have the essay structure framework embedded into your brain!

The format is quite simple really.  You will have a choice of one of three sets of questions. You cannot mix and match!

Question 1 - 10 marks (22 minutes max)
Question 2 - 15 marks (38 minutes max)

Total time - 1 hour.
