More about the IB Geography Diploma
The IB 5 Countries - As recommended by GATW.com
The concept of the IB Five was created by Richard Allaway to lessen the number of case study countries that the students have to remember. IB students should be able to state key developmental statistics for the countries under investigation but the broad scope of the course can lead to hundreds of individual case studies and a mountain of data to recall. The IB five have a high concentration of case studies e.g USA for Core migration, Higher level diasporas, freshwater - conflicts within a drainage basin, obesity for Food & Health, hurricane MEDC for hazards etc etc. Of course you can use other destinations as and where necessary but it does work well. Here in Toulouse, we also add France to the list as it is important to use as many local case studies as possible to support and promote understanding of our host country.
