How will your work be marked in Year 8?

Your assessments and project work will be marked according to the whole school assessment policy.
A* - Exceptionally strong knowledge and understanding
A - Very strong knowledge and understanding
B – Strong knowledge and understanding
C - Sound knowledge and understanding
D – Some knowledge and understanding
E - Basic knowledge and understanding
F - Rudimentary knowledge and understanding
If my work is marked with a code /10 what does it mean?
10 is the maxiumu mark and you should be aiming for the highest grade possible. But if you see a K, U, S or P, what do they mean?
K is for Knowledge
Have I recalled? Found the facts? Is it detailed? Is it complete?
U is for Understanding
Have I shown I understand what I have been taught? Can I interpret information? Have I explained?
S – is for Skills
Am I good at map skills? Can I use evidence effectively?
P is for Presentation
Have I taken care with my handwriting and diagrams? Have I written in pen and drawn in pencil? Have I proof read it or done a spell
check if I have used the computer? Titles underlined? Name and form included?

How will you be rewarded?

Excellent effort will be rewarded with school commendations and merit awards. The Geography Department also uses www.mystickers.co.uk to reward you with stickers and postcards. Each sticker and postcard has an unique code and can be used to claim prizes or the 'golden prize'. In the past, students have won iPods, iPads and even flat screen televisions!

First Day at School - Checklist for teacher and Year 8 students

S02 - sleepy after the long summer holiday
1. Welcome and introduction (coats and bags to be left in lockers, arrive with laptop, planner, folder and equipment)
2. Where things are in the room? S02 and S03.
3. Hand out folders, labels
4. Hand out assessment recording sheets
5. Sign into mystickers.co.uk and set up an account. Each student to receive a sticker and shown the postcards. Explain how this links in to our rewards scheme at IST
6. Set homework task - Where in the world? Photo and written description of one place that you have been to over the summer holidays (See photo below) You can use this Word Document template to get you started.
